The Chatterbox vs Affirmations

Our fears are often rooted in what we fear might happen. Parents fearing for the safety of their children. Workers fearing they’ll lose their jobs. A cook fearing a nasty burn from a hot pan. These things all have in common the fact that they are possibilities.

But why do so many of us fall into the trap of fearing an outcome that is not set in stone? It is because we can imagine how we would feel it the worst happened and we don’t want to feel that way. Our imaginations, left unchecked, will run wild with worst-case scenarios. That’s not to say that imagination is a bad thing. Guided and inspired, our imaginations can take us to wondrous places and help us live up to our fullest potential. However, it is also closely tied to our inner chatterbox which is where so much of the worst-case-scenarios come from.

Susan recommended using guided visualization to help harness the power of the imagination. "Guided visualization uses the power of your imagination to see life as it would be seen if you listen only to your Higher Self. If you are fearful, your imagination is plugged into the chatterbox, and often the only things you can conjure up are horror stories." Using a book, an audio recording, or even making an appointment with a practitioner who specializes in this technique can help you train your imagination to work for you, not against you. An imagination focused on life’s positive outcomes will help keep the chatterbox quiet
